Her Death
Marilyn Monroe died on August 5th, 1962 at the age on 36, of a drug overdose. She was found dead in her home in Los Angeles, California. There were many theories about how she had died, including murder, but the most probable reason was that she committed suicide. The last person she called before she died was president John F. Kennedy.
Imitating Marilyn
Recognize this dress? It's just part of the look that's been imitated by famous women from Madonna to Lindsay Lohan. They all say she's a major inspiration to them. Mariah Carey has even said she's obsessed with Marilyn Monroe, purchasing her old baby grand piano for $600,000. She also named her daughter Monroe. Christina Aguilera is often seen with platinum blonde hair and ruby red lipstick, just like Monroe. Aguilera also was inspired by a photo of Marilyn for her Back To Basics album cover. One year, for George Lopez's birthday, J.Lo dressed up exactly like Marilyn Monroe to sing her famous "Happy Birthday" ode. Lindsay Lohan has expressed her love for Monroe through photo shoots for New york magazine and Playboy, and also has two tattoos dedicated to her. Marilyn was one of the most famous icons of the 50's, but clearly she is still among us today as she continues to inspire women everywhere. (Aquino)
Where Marilyn is seen now...
11 years after Marilyn's death in 1962, Elton John wrote her a song, saying "Your candle died out long before your legend did." That was true at the time and is still true today. There is a 26 foot tall statue of Marilyn Monroe that is now located in Palm Springs, CA. The TV show "Smash" is based on a musical about Marilyn, where two girls are competing to play her. In 2011 Marilyn was portrayed by Michelle Williams in My Week With Marilyn. Williams received and Oscar nomination for her role in this film.
